Today we’re talking to Ryan Graves, former Navy F/A-18F pilot and CEO of Merged Point. We discuss the unanswered questions behind Ryan’s UAP encounters; the questions we should be asking about the recent balloons over the US; and why there is a lack of action from US leadership on all of these UAP sightings.
All of this right here, right now, on the Modern CTO Podcast!

About Ryan Graves:
Ryan Graves is a former Navy F/A-18F pilot and T-45C Goshawk instructor pilot. While in VFA-11 The Red Rippers, Ryan deployed aboard the USS Enterprise in 2012 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (CVN-65) and again in 2015 aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) in support of Operation Inherent Resolve over Iraq & Syria. While flying, Ryan received specialized training in JTAC/FAC(A) (Forward Air Controller (Airborne)), Combat Search and Rescue as a Rescue Mission Commander (RMC), Head Landing Signals Officer (LSO), Navy NATOPS/ORM/CRM Check Instructor (F18 +T45), & Naval Aviation Safety School graduate.
In 2019, Ryan left the Navy to join FAST Labs, an advanced R&D center of excellence within BAE Systems’ Electronics Sector. Ryan led teams of technical SMEs to win and execute contracts such as DARPA Air Combat Evolution TA-1, Air Force’s Skyborg program, and other classified projects.
In 2020, Ryan left BAE Systems to help start Quantum Generative Materials (GenMat), a vertically integrated material science company using ML/AI to reliably predict the atomic structure of material through the algorithmic manipulation of matter.
Graves is currently the CEO and Founder of Merged Point and Host of the Merged Podcast. Merged is a radically open-minded exploration of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) through the lens of pilots, scientists, and innovators.
Ryan volunteers his time in service of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, where he serves as the first Chair of the Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Integration & Outreach Committee (UAPIOC).
Our mission is to accelerate humanity’s understanding of UAP through data-driven exploration of the phenomena.
DETECT, TRACK, UNDERSTAND
The existence of UAP is no longer in question. Our modern-day tools of war prove this to us. Further understanding requires us to tune our instruments for the task.
With new sensors come new data. Unprecedented advancements in Machine Intelligence assisted scientific discovery are poised to radically advance our scientific velocity.
MERGED POINT will make targeted investments into sensing & AI technologies that enable data driven understanding of UAP.
QUANTUM ENGINEERING
Quantum Computers are not the only quantum technology where immense advantage can be had.
– Quantum scale sensing of gravitic distortions – Revolutionarily precise mapping of Earth’s magnetic fields
MERGED POINT will make targeted investments in quantum technologies to expand the tools and datasets needed for deeper understanding of unidentified phenomena and advanced materials.
ADVANCED ENERGY AND PROPULSION SYSTEMS
Unlocking further understanding of UAP will enable radical breakthroughs in our understanding of critical technologies and entirely new fields of science that are currently unknown to us.
MERGED POINT will target investments into technologies that translate these learnings into critical Energy & Transportation technologies needed to create a sustainable and secure future.
